What to Expect: The Experience | Seattle Music Photographer

What to Expect When You Work With Me: What is the experience like?

It begins with a call or an email. The more info you can give me in that first contact the better. However, it is totally fine to simply say, “I need new photos” and we can go from there!

The next step is a consultation It may be 10 minutes, or much longer. It is typically not any longer than an hour. This can be by phone, zoom, A questionnaire by email, or in person. I prefer to meet by zoom or in person as it helps us to get to know each other better. This is a very important step, especially for larger concept sessions. Sometimes it is in that casual conversation that you get to the essence of a shoot or suddenly have a brainstorm of the perfect location, etc. Either way, during this consultation, I’ll ask questions to get us thinking and to fill in the blanks. I like to know you and your vision as much as possible. If you are a musician, I may ask to hear your music. I’ll offer more information about how I work as well. During the consultation, we may also go over details and specifics including budget, images, retouching, licensing, etc. By the end, you should feel very comfortable with me, you should know what to expect, I should have a good understanding of the images we are going to create, and our questions should be answered.

Before the session, if you decide to work with me, I will send an online contract that details and lays out everything we discussed. At that time, you can sign and pay your deposit to get your photo session in the books! You can also make changes to the contract if need be. Side note: I don’t create very lengthy complicated contracts. I simply lay out the details to be sure we are on exactly the same page. The full balance is due 24hours before the session.

During the session. This is the fun part! My goal is to create an atmosphere as if you are hanging out with a good friend. I love shooting on location and keeping it moving. The environment inspires the shoot. I will help pose here and there, but mostly the posing will happen naturally as we engage in the moment. I’m happy to direct. I also love to see where the moment takes us and capture the images that tell your vision. Each session is very different, yet most people that work with me say that they had A LOT of fun!

After the session. Depending on what we agreed upon with the initial contract, it usually takes about 2 weeks for your images to arrive. We may rush an assignment if necessary. You will either receive your images by DropBox (if you ordered the full set), in an online gallery for viewing and choosing, or we will meet again (zoom or in person) to go over the images together. I do not give all of the original images that I take, as I consider those unfinished images. They are like the trimmings of a dress for a fashion designer, or the ingredients of a pastry for a chef. You will see a variety of finished images. Your images will be high-resolution and ready for print or online. You may at this time decide to add on to your original order, add additional retouching (I include one new edit) or you may simply be choosing the exact images you’d like. I do simple retouching of images and include one edit - the amount of retouching will be discussed in the initial consultation. Additional retouching is $75/hr.

I include licensing in every session so that you have use of the images right away! If you ordered fine art prints, frames, or extras - the order will be sent out directly after the follow-up consultation.
